"Save the Bees" Open Day 2025

We threw open the gates of our apiary on June 14th for The Big Green Week – and what a day it was!

It was all about celebrating bees, nature, and community. Joanne kicked things off with a brilliant intro to beekeeping, Sue Knight gave us the lowdown on the Asian Hornet awareness campaign, and Belinda shared some fantastic tips on how we can all support pollinators in our gardens. So inspiring!

We were also lucky to be joined by some amazing local businesses selling bee and nature-inspired goodies – think mouthwatering brownies from Demi’s Delights, gorgeous lino prints by Jackdaw & Bear, and stunning silver jewellery from Zoe Robyn. A proper treat for all the senses.

Families got stuck into pollinator-themed arts and crafts, and the colouring-in table was buzzing all day long (pun very much intended!). The “Dress Like a Beekeeper” activity was a massive hit with the kids – we might have some future beekeepers on our hands!

Navin’s rolled candle demos drew a big crowd too – and we sold loads of kits to people keen to give it a try at home.

Most importantly, the day sparked so many great conversations. It was amazing to see how interested and passionate everyone was about bees and the natural world. We raised over £500 for the Asian Hornet campaign – a fantastic result.

Huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped bring the event to life – couldn’t have done it without you. Already dreaming up ideas for next year… it’s going to be even bigger and better!

"Great Big Green Week 2025, when a million people – just like you – will come together to be part of a wave of actions for friends and family, climate and nature.

We can all make small swaps, large swaps and swaps that change the system, to make our communities better.

By coming together, we’ll also send a message loud and clear to our politicians and decision makers that we need to swap old ways for better ways now."

So proud to have involved ABKA in the nationwide campaign, here's to next year! Katy
